Bloomberg News in its 2010 Luxury Watches Special Report, provided five tips for investing in Swiss Luxury Watches.
1. Sotheby’s in New York recommends looking for limited edition watches with complicated models, as well as top brands such as Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, Audemars Piguet,Breguet, A. Lange & Söhne, F.P. Journe, Richard Mille, and Greubel Forsey.
2. Vintage watches are rare and go up in value. Top brands such as Patek Philippe and Rolex are good bets if you want an investment.
3. Patek Philippe’s stainless steel models from 1940s and 1950s are good investment pieces because they were not originally popular and the company produced few of them.
4. Keep all original documentation, certificates, and accessories. Make sure your watch is kept in its original condition. Don’t restore it, or even change the strap. The watch could go down in value if you change anything.
5. Buy what you love, even if you buy as an investment. Don’t buy something just because it’s on sale or because it’s the newest trend. Swiss luxury watches are meant to be worn and enjoyed every day of the year.
