Baume & Mercier (bohm ay mers-yay) is a Swiss luxury watchmaking company founded in 1830. It is owned by Richemont, and with Cartier and Piaget they make up the core of the group. This company is represented in 75 countries and produces around 200,000 watches a year. The most important markets are in Europe, especially Italy, Spain and France. Baume & Mercier is distributed worldwide and and has established itself as a manufacturer of sporty chronographs.
For the past few years Baume et Mercier has sought to make a name for itself as a trendsetter. Baume & Mercier’s most well known models were named after the most stylish resorts – the “Riviera” and the “Hampton.”
According to the official Baume & Mercier website, the watch should be maintained by following these instructions:
- To ensure optimal reliability and long-life, an authorized Baume & Mercier After-Sales Service Centre should carry out a complete watch service every 3 to 5 years.
- The average life span of your battery is 2 to 3 years. A worn battery should never be left inside your watch, because there is a risk of its deterioration damaging the movement. It is recommended that you have your battery changed by an authorized After-Sales Service Centre.
- All Baume & Mercier watches are water-resistant to a depth of 30 metres at least. For greater levels of water-resistance (50m and more),the corresponding figure is engraved on the case back.
- The water-resistance of a watch protects the movement from dust, moisture and from any deterioration when fully immersed in water. The gaskets keep the watch water-resistant. However, as they are constantly exposed to several forms of outside aggressions (cosmetics, perspiration, temperature changes), the water-resistance of a watch may decrease with time. Therefore, it is advisable to have the water-resistance of your watch checked every 12 months.
